pear ginger breakfast crumble healthy sugar free

This delicious pear crumble tastes like dessert for breakfast! The pears are roasted with warm spices, such as cinnamon and ginger and are covered with a healthy crumble topping. Serve the crumble along side a dollop of greek yogurt and enjoy this warm breakfast that warms you up during the autumn and winter months.

Is this pear + ginger breakfast crumble healthy?

Yes, this crumble is super healthy! While the crumble tastes like dessert, the ingredients are super good for you.

The use of sweeteners is really low, especially compared to regular crumble recipes. It can even be made completely sugar free if you use a zero calorie sweetener such as erythritol or a natural sweetener such as xilitol.

And instead of using white flour, which has no nutritional value for your body whatsoever, we’re using healthy oats.

The butter, which is a standard ingredient for regular crumble recipes is swapped for some nutritious almond butter instead.

This pear + ginger breakfast crumble is:

  • (refined) sugar free and can be made completely sugar free
  • Whole wheat
  • Low fat
  • Low in calories
  • Full of fiber
  • Full of nutrition

What ingredients do you need to make this pear + ginger breakfast crumble?

To make this pear + ginger breakfast crumble, you’re going to need:

  • pears
  • some sweetener ( I like to use xilitol, a natural and zero calorie sweetener)
  • spices: cinnamon, ground ginger + fresh grated ginger
  • a tiny bit of potato or corn starch to bind the fruit
  • oats
  • almond butter
  • dessicated coconut
  • slivered almonds or chopped hazelnuts
  • maple syrup ( or other sweetener of choice
  • a tiny bit of salt

How to make this pear + ginger breakfast crumble

This recipe is easy + quick to prepare. To make this crumble, you start of by mixing the chopped pears with the spices, the corn starch and the sweeteners. Add to a baking tin while you make the crumble topping. Mix the crumble ingredients together and sprinkle over the fruit. Bake in a preheated oven on 175 c for about 30 minutes until the fruit is cooked and the crumble is crunchy and golden brown.

Can I make this recipe for dessert?

Yes, of course you can. This recipe is good enough to even have for dessert or as a sweet snack. You could adjust the sweetness to taste and make it even sweeter if you wish. You can serve the crumble with some custard or vanilla ice cream.

Recipe suggestions

  • You could swap the pears with apples
  • You can use different kinds of nut butters, as long as they have a neutral taste. Swap the almond butter for cashew or sunflower seed butter for example.
  • Instead of almonds on top of the crumble, you can use other nuts instead. I also love the combination of pears with hazelnuts.
  • If you don’t like ginger, simply leave it out.
