These homemade tahini + chocolate granola bars are absolutely moreish! They are nutty, chocolaty and crispy. They are easy and quick to prepare and require no baking.

Why you’ll love these granola bars

These bars are:

  • Super healthy!
  • Low in calories ( 87 calories for 1 bar)
  • Completely vegan
  • Gluten free
  • (refined) sugar free
  • Lactose free

A healthy + low calorie treat

These tahini + chocolate granola bars are a super delicious and healthy treat to snack on during the day. They are also a great grab & go breakfast on busy weekdays.

They are not overly sweet, like commercially sold granola bars and are made with nutritious ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard. No weird unpronounceable ingredients whatsoever!

They are made with healthy oats and rice crispies for some crunch and are sweetened with a small amount of brown rice syrup. They are not overly sweet, like commercially sold granola bars and don’t contain any butter. Instead of using unhealthy saturated fats, these bars contain the healthy sesame paste known as tahini.

These granola bars make a very nutritious and low calorie treat. They are much lower in sugar and fat and they are also much lower in calories, containing just 87 calories per serving!

How do these tahini + chocolate granola bars taste?

The bars have a subtle nutty taste and are sweet and chocolaty. They are also deliciously crispy and they can satisfy my sweet tooth any day.

These bars combine one of my favorite flavor combo’s: chocolate + tahini. A match made in heaven.

I personally really love the taste of tahini. It’s basically the peanut butter of the mediterranean and Middle East! And just as with peanut butter, its nutty taste is delicious combined with all kinds of flavors, such as fruit jam / jelly, honey or in this case chocolate.

What ingredients do you need to make these healthy tahini + chocolate granola bars?

To make these bars, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • oats
  • (brown) rice crispies
  • brown rice syrup
  • tahini
  • cacao powder
  • cinnamon
  • sea salt
  • vanilla extract
  • toasted sesame seeds
  • chocolate chips (optional)

How to make these healthy tahini + chocolate granola bars?

Making these bars is a piece of cake! To make these bars you simply heat up the brown rice syrup and tahini on a stove on low heat to melt it a bit and add it to all the rest of the ingredients except for the optional chocolate chips and mix. If you’re using chocolate chips, let the mixture cool off a little. Then, add the mixture to a prepared baking pan and press well with slightly wet hands. Let it cool off in the fridge of freezer for a while and slice into 12 bars. That’s it!

Recipe suggestions + substitutions

You can get creative with this recipe and use other ingredients that you have on hand.

You can:

  • Substitute the tahini with any nut butter of choice, but note that the flavor will alter.
  • Replace the brown rice syrup with any other liquid sweetener of choice. You can sub it with honey, maple syrup, date syrup or agave, for example. You may need to use a bit less though , as the sweetness may vary.
  • add different add-ins like raisins, chopped nuts and so on!
  • use brown rice crispies if you can find it, making these bars even more nutritious.

How to store these treats?

You can keep the granola bars fresh in a an airtight box in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Keep them in the freezer, if you want to store them for longer. If you eat these granola bars straight from the freezer, let them thaw for about 5 minutes before eating them.

Did you make this recipe?

I hope you’ll love these delicious tahini + chocolate granola bars as much as I did. If you made this recipe and loved it, please share your comments + sugestions below!
