What ingredients do you need to make this tropical maca smoothie bowl?

To make this easy breakfast, all you need are a few ingredients:

  • frozen mango
  • frozen banana
  • a little bit of maca powder ( optional)
  • a splash of coconut water or plant based milk
  • honey or sweetener of choice
  • blueberries
  • pumpkin seeds
  • toasted coconut flakes

How to make the smoothie bowl?

Just blend all the smoothie ingredients in a high speed blender until it reaches a smooth + soft serve like consistency. Then, add all the toppings + enjoy!

Maca

Maca is a superfood powder derived from the dried roots of the maca plant. It is well known for centuries by the Peruvian people that lived in the Andes and has been used for its medicinal properties.

  • it may help relieve symptoms of menopause
  • it can improve mood + energy levels
  • it has anti-inflammatory properties

Mango

Mango is high in nutrients + antioxidants such as polyphenols and may:

  • improve eye health, because it’s high in vitamin A and lutein and zeaxanthin.
  • boost immune system because it’s high in vitamin A and C, crucial to immune health
  • promote heart health due to its high magnesium + potassium content
  • help lower your risk of certain cancers, because polyphenols have anticancer properties
  • promote digestive health. It contains amylase, a digestive enzyme that breaks down complex carbs. It is beneficial in treating constipation issues.

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are full of antioxidants, fiber, healthy fats, magnesium + are high in protein. Eating pumpkin seeds regularly has several benefits to your health, such as:

  • Promoting a good nights sleep. They are high in magnesium + tryptophan which are transformed into your body as serotonin + melatonin, known as anti-stress and sleep promoting hormones.
  • Anticancer properties + prevent disease. They are full of the antioxidant called phenols, which have anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects.

This recipe is so easy, but to make it a success, here are a few tips:

  • To create a thick and creamy smoothie bowl, use frozen ingredients. If you’re using fresh fruit, keep them in the freezer overnight. You should also limit the amount of liquid you use.
  • Use a powerful high speed blender to make this recipe. If you have problems with blending the frozen fruit, make sure you stir the mixture with a spoon once in a while to help the mixture blend more easily.
  • You can add different topping if you like and if you don’t have maca, try adding other add-ins such as broken flaxseeds, turmeric, cinnamon, oats or other super food ingredients to boost the nutritional content.

Ingredients

  • 1 large frozen mango

  • 1 large frozen banana

  • splash of coconut water or plant based milk

  • 1 tsp maca powder

  • 1/2 tbsp honey or sweetener of choice

  • toppings: blueberries, pumpkin seeds + toasted coconut flakes

Directions

  • Add all the frozen fruit to a high speed blender or use a stick mixer.
  • Add a tiny amount of coconut water/plantbased milk and the honey and blend on high speed. Add more liquid if necessary and stir it when you have trouble with blending.
  • Add the smoothie to a bowl and garnish with the toppings.
  • Enjoy!
